Extraction
Tooth extractions, or the removal of one or more teeth, are usually used as a last resort in dentistry, as keeping the natural tooth in the mouth is ideal. Tooth extraction is a dental procedure during which your tooth is completely removed from its socket
When might you need a tooth extraction?
You might need to have a tooth pulled out if you have:
- Severe gum disease
- A deep infection in a tooth
- A broken tooth
- Orthodontic reasons
- Problems with a wisdom tooth
Treatment process
- Wisdom tooth removal can be carried out by a dentist or a specialist surgeon working in a hospital.
- A dentist or a specialist surgeon will take an X-ray of your mouth.
- Removing the wisdom tooth. If the tooth hasn’t come through the gum, a small cut (incision) will be made in the gum to access it. A small piece of the bone covering the tooth may also need to be removed.
FAQ
Does Tooth Extractions Change Face Shape?
It is possible you may notice a slight difference in your face shape after getting your teeth removed. Teeth have deep roots, which connect with the bones in your face and contribute to the shape of your face.
When can you resume physical activity?
We recommend waiting 5 days after wisdom teeth removal to resume physical activity. Physical activity can elevate heart rate and blood pressure which could cause swelling of the extraction site.
